The brief was to create a visual identity for a European city. The goal was to analyze the city and extract its specific features in order to design a logo as well as documentation on the graphic universe, including three posters and signage elements. A draw was held to assign the cities ; I got the city of San Sebastian which is located in Spain.
The first phase of the project was to create a research report. I had to research the city, understand its visual characteristics and strengths, which would help me choose a graphic approach. The brief was to create a presentation with three topics, to develop only one in the end.
My choice focused on a work by Eduardo Chillida, a Spanish Basque sculptor and engraver born in San Sebastian. We found many of his work in the public spaces. I fell in love with the iconic, Comb of the Wind, which is located on the seafront and is made up of three sculptures. I repurposed them by breaking them down and creating new shapes that were both geometric and organic. From these graphic elements, I created the logo, posters, and signage.
